E.J., portrayed by Matt Cornett, secures the role of Troy Bolton, much to the disappointment of Nini’s ex-boyfriend, Ricky Bowen, played by Joshua Bassett. Ricky auditions for the show in hopes of winning Nini back, setting the stage for a complicated love triangle.
