5 Common Signs Your Residential Lines Need Cleaning

All of the drains in your house connect to your sewer line. If your home has a clogged main line, it could lead to water backup in sinks and toilets.

The first sign that your sewer line needs cleaning is slow water flow. If you notice this in multiple areas of your home, it’s time to call us.

Slow Drains

All drains are connected to a main sewer system that carries the wastewater from your home into the local wastewater systems. Any slow drains indicate that your line needs cleaning to remove hair, food debris and soap scum before it becomes a more serious problem.

If your bathroom or kitchen sinks are slowly draining, it’s important to call a plumber immediately. Even if it seems like a small issue, any slow clog will grow until it completely restricts your drain lines, leading to expensive plumbing service fees and broken water pipes.

Regular residential line cleaning Claremore OK prevents this by removing any blockages before they cause major problems. Often, multiple slow drains indicate a larger problem in the sewer line.

Smells of Sewage

If the sewage smell is wafting from multiple drains throughout your house, this is a clear sign that something is wrong with your main sewer line. The odor is strongest in bathroom drains because they are connected to the septic or sewer system via a P-trap, which can fill up with sewage over time.

A clogged P-trap or cracked or damaged drain pipe is likely the culprit, and a professional must fix it immediately. This can be expensive and time-consuming, but it is also the safest option for your family’s health.

The sewage smell can also cling to carpeting and fabrics in your home, so be sure to wash washable items as soon as you notice the odor. A spritz of undiluted white vinegar can quickly neutralize the smell of couches and other hard-to-wash fabrics.

Water Backup

Walking into your bathroom or laundromat and finding a pool of foul-smelling, dirty water is the worst thing. This is a sign your sewer line needs to be cleaned.

A clog is usually the cause of this problem. Grease hair clumps could cause it, or when your children got a toy down the drain while playing.

It is important to fix this problem as soon as possible to avoid further damage and the need for expensive repairs or replacements. Talk to your agent about adding coverage for sewer backups to your policy. You can get Loss of Use insurance, which will pay for hotel accommodations if you cannot live in your home for some time because of a sewer backup.

Bubbles

We’ve all seen bubbles and have probably played with them in a pool or at the beach. They are a soap film wrapped around the air. Bubbles have nothing to do with how clean something is, however.

The purpose of your sewer line is to transfer wastewater from your home to your septic tank or the regional sewer. Unfortunately, hair, food waste and other materials can build up inside this line, causing blockages.

If multiple drains begin to slow down or stop altogether, this is a sign that your sewer line needs cleaning. You may also hear gurgling sounds from your toilets, indicating clogged pipes.
